What Does It Do?

The Essential HealthTracker app allows you to create profiles and track key health metrics for multiple people. For privacy purposes, it is intended for use by individuals or those in a family unit.

Key metrics included in the app are height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, blood oxygen level, severity of cough, difficulty breathing and other indicators. The app also allows you to enter when, what kind and how much of any medication you take. Each entry is time-stamped and shown in both list and graph formats for quickly and easily assessing the progression of each over time.

The app allows you to export data to a printed report for sharing with your doctor or other caregivers. It does not contain any tracking mechanism, nor does it share data outside of the app. It is intended purely for personal use and any sharing of information happens solely at the user’s discretion.

Use it to track the progression of acute illnesses, such as COVID-19, or as an app to log daily measurements and medications when managing a chronic illness such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

FileMaker Go 19, a free download from the App Store, is required to use this app. For detailed instructions on how to download Essential HealthTracker and open it with FileMaker Go, please see the How To Install section below or the user documentation.

Why We Made It

In the Spring of 2020, the novel coronavirus went from a regional phenomenon to a global pandemic. In the event we became infected, we wanted an app that easily let us enter, track and analyze the most common metrics that serve as indicators of COVID-19. We also wanted to be able to share that data with our doctors, if we wanted to, so needed an easy means of exporting the tracked data into a PDF that could be emailed, again, at our discretion. Releasing this app for free is our way of contributing to the various efforts going on during tough times for this world.

Please Note: Sounds Essential LLC are not doctors or medical providers and do not make any medical claims as to the use of this app in relation to your health or overall wellness. It is merely a tool to help you keep track of key metrics. The app should not be used in lieu of actual guidance and/or recommendations by your healthcare providers or caregivers.

How To Install:

Essential HealthTracker is not (at this time) a native iOS app and we understand that this creates challenges. At some point, we'd like to tackle this if there is sufficient demand to do so, and if you'd like to contribute, please see the Development Roadmap section below. In iOS 13, follow the directions below to get up and running with Essential HealthTracker:

• Download FileMaker Go 19 from the App Store
• After purchasing Essential HealthTracker, go to the download link and tap it
• Confirm you wish to download the file
• The file will start downloading as indicated by the arrow in the top right
• After downloading is complete, tap the file
• Tap the Share icon in the top right
• Find "Copy to FileMaker Go 19", bearing in mind you may need to click the More button
• The app will automatically open in FileMaker Go 19

How To Update:

If you are updating to a new version of the app and would like to retain your current data, following the instructions below:

• When on the screen with the list of people being tracked, tap the share icon in the top right
• Select Export All Data and confirm you wish to export
• Close the Share window and exit the app
• Tap the FileMaker Go My Apps menu item and select On My iPhone/iPad
• Under Other Documents you will find the exported data
• Delete the Essential HealthTracker file, purchase the new version and download to FileMaker Go
• Open the app, tap the Share button again and choose Import Data
• If you are also upgrading to FileMaker Go 19, you will need to copy the exported data file to FileMaker Go 19

Technical Requirements:

• FileMaker Go 19 (download from the App Store)
• iOS devices require iOS 13.2 minimum

Development Roadmap:

Below are ideas for the app that may be included in a future version. 

• Allow the user to select the date range for charts and reports
• Allow the user to create reports grouped by measurement type
• Display multiple measurements on charts
• Display medication doses on charts with measurements
• Include charts on reports
• Allow editing, deletion of medications
• Allow for unique medications per person
• Explore medication scheduling and reminders
• Convert to an iOS app
• Explore the idea of being able to share anonymized data

Known Issues:

Below are known issues that will hopefully be addressed in a future version of the app.

• Measurement chart on iPhone portrait mode does not fill the vertical space
